MPDT Autumn Webinar

Women in the Independent Tradition

This webinar highlights the work of  Ella Sharpe, Paula Heimann and Pearl King – three psychoanalysts from the Independent Tradition in the British Psychoanalytical Society, and the relevance of their work for contemporary psychoanalytical practice.

10-11.30am, Saturday 15 November 2025

A recording will be available for ticket holders for a limited time after the event.

Speakers: Emily Alster and Ken Robinson
Chair: Marion Lindsay

We are very pleased to welcome Emily Alster and Ken Robinson, two psychoanalysts from the British Psychoanalytical Society, to share their knowledge and appreciation of the work of these three women who worked within the Independent tradition in the UK. All three made important contributions to the development of psychoanalysis in general and Independent psychoanalysis in particular.

Our speakers will introduce the women and discuss some key ideas to spark interest about their thinking and the implications for technique within contemporary practice. Emily Alster and Ken Robinson have both contributed to a recently published book, Independent Women in British Psychoanalysis edited by Elizabeth Wolf and Barbie Antonis (Routledge 2024).

The webinar will be chaired by Marion Lindsay.
