Manchester Psychoanalytic Development Trust

About MPDT

In partnership with the Northern School of Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy (NSCAP), since 2015 we have hosted day conferences on Narcissism, Trauma and Sexuality; all three with the overarching theme of ‘across the life cycle’. We have organised half-day study events on Psychoanalytic Perspectives on Race and Difference; Eating Disorders; and a Couple State of Mind. A series of Clinical Seminars for Adult Psychotherapists, led by experienced Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists and Psychoanalysts, has provided specific CPD for adult psychotherapists.

We recently decided to establish a more robust organisational base in order to develop what we do. With this in mind, we have set up Manchester Psychoanalytic Development Trust (MPDT). This charitable organisation replaces TPP as the organiser of future events. This evolution marks the end of our formal relationship with NSCAP. All future events will be organised under MPDT

MPDT’s Charitable Aims

  • to promote psychoanalytic thinking across the North West of England
  • to endeavour to bring together clinicians from different disciplines within mental health and promote an open culture of dialogue and engagement across different fields
  • to provide high quality training events through conferences and seminars, to give an in-depth perspective of psychoanalytic principles within clinical practice and to advance different psychoanalytic ideas and concepts

At the moment MPDT is established as a Small Charity. In order to apply to be a Charitable Trust with the Charity Commission, we need to show a minimum level of funds in the MPDT bank account. Currently we are well short of this amount, and are fundraising. Becoming a Charitable Trust registered with the Charity Commission will allow us to raise funds to meet the aims of the Trust. Funds are used to pay for all the expenses incurred in putting on events and seminars, including the provision of subsidised places for some participants, plus the creation and running of a website.
