A presentation based on the chapter by this name in Mourning and Metabolization Close Readings in the Psychoanalytic Literature of Loss by Rael Meyerowitz (Routledge, 2023).

Rael Meyerowitz is a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist working mainly in private practice following his recent retirement from the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, where he had worked for more than twenty years, mainly in the Fitzjohn’s Unit with patients with complex and enduring mental health difficulties. He co-edited a book on this work entitled Turning the Tide in 2018. Before his clinical trainings, he had a background in literature and philosophy which is reflected in his most recent book Mourning and Metabolization; Close Readings in the Psychoanalytic Literature of Loss. Rael has taught Freud and other psychoanalytic topics over the years on Tavistock, UCL, BPA and BPF training programmes.

Era Trieman is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist working in private practice. He trained on the M1 course at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust. He is currently a candidate at the Institute of Psychoanalysis.

Martin Gill trained as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and then as a psychoanalyst. He is the organising tutor for the Tavistock D58 Manchester, and is active in training and in the regional development of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapies. He works mostly in private practice as a psychoanalyst in South Manchester, but also for Six Degrees Social Enterprise, which offers IAPT step 2 interventions in Salford. He an MPDT Trustee.
