MPDT Bursaries

MPDT is committed to increasing access to continuing professional development and training for people who find themselves with barriers to such learning. We believe this is essential to increasing representation within the professions that are derived from psychoanalysis.

MPDT Bursary Policy

CPD events

We aim is to ensure that trainees and students who want to learn more about psychoanalysis can access our training events, regardless of their background. We therefore offer a limited number of free/reduced places at our webinars and conferences.

Training

We offer a limited number of bursaries to trainees who are undertaking a substantive psychodynamic or psychoanalytic training, accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) or the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). We are aware that such trainings are expensive and we want to help people from under-represented groups to become part of the psychoanalytic professions. We also offer bursaries for people undertaking the pre-clinical training in child and adolescent psychotherapy (Psychoanalytic Observational Studies).

We offer a one-off annual contribution to such training (currently £500) only as the MPDT budget allows. There can be no further applications with a 12-month period. Bursaries are awarded to people who are not receiving funding elsewhere.

Who can apply for a funded CPD place or training bursary?

CPD events – anyone who is a student/trainee in formal education or training, and interested in participating at our webinars or conference, and who is in genuine financial need. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Training bursaries – available to people living and working within the North West of England, and who are attending a training as specified above. The bursary is not open to people undertaking publicly funded training. The awarding of bursaries is dependent upon MPDT having sufficient funds to enable this.

How to apply

If you want to apply for a funded place at a webinar or conference, please email us at info@mpdt.org.uk prior to applying to the event. Please include details of your current training scheme or formal study. As there are only a limited number of places available at each event, we cannot guarantee a free/reduced place.

These will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, and are contingent upon MPDT having funds to support the application.
