If you are considering a career in psychotherapy and couple counselling, Tavistock Relationships’ our Foundation Certificate in Couple Counselling and Psychotherapy is the perfect way to start.
Their training is recognised all over the world and you can continue to train to an advanced level, once you have your Foundation Certificate.
Generally, people who join this course have little or no clinical experience and come from a wide variety of professional backgrounds. Theye expect applicants to show a demonstrable interest in psychodynamic or psychoanalytic psychotherapy and in couples therapy and to have a degree of or equivalent professional qualification.
Couple psychotherapy theories are introduced with special emphasis on the psychodynamic approach. You’ll learn about couple work, the special character of the marital/couple fit and the theory underpinning this approach. They encourage students to develop their clinical skills by both observing and participating in role plays.
Separate seminars are devoted to the exploration of life stages including changing trends in family and intimate relationships, parenting, divorce, serial marriages, step-families and bereavement.
Once completed, you will have a clear understanding of what it means to work therapeutically with couples and the psychoanalytic theory that underpins this practice. This knowledge will help you decide if they wish to pursue a career in this area and the next step might be to apply for a place on one of Tavistocks Relationships’ clinical training programmes.
If you’d like to learn more about the course, there is an online open day event in December.
